H-B A/V Club: Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines: The Complete Series REVIEW

Welcome everyone to another installment of the H-B A/V Club!

Normally I do these reviews in an audio format and release them on the feed but there have been a handful of new shows being put out on Blu-ray by Warner Archive and I wanted to mix things up a little, feature some of the reviews as text pieces on the blog.

So, with that said, the release I want to discuss today is an H-B series collection that came out a few weeks ago courtesy of Warner Archive: Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines: The Complete Series.

The show is a spin-off from a previous Hanna-Barbera series, Wacky Races which completed its network run at the beginning of 1969. Either a result of a limited overall concept, or possibly an attempt to secure a more robust series order, H-B went into the fall of 1969 with two spin-offs, one of them being Dastardly and Muttley and the other being The Perils of Penelope Pitstop.

SCOOBY-DOO AV CLUB

This just arrived today via courier! I was excited to see that Amazon in Canada has seasons one and two for $11 and $13, respectively. Since I already had S2 sent to me by WB publicity back in the day, I grabbed S1 and finally completed my set.

Hex Girls to Get Their own YA Novel This Fall

Interesting news that The Hex Girls will be getting their own YA novel this fall courtesy of Random House Books for Young Readers and author, Lily Meade.

Clearly following in the footsteps of the Daphne & Velma books from a few years ago, this story will centre on the character of Thorn who moves to Coolsville with bandmates Luna and Dusk. They’re looking for a fresh start after a series of events left their hometown, and Thorn’s reputation, in shambles. Things take a turn for the worse, though, when a mysterious mist starts killing crops and making people sick wherever Thorn goes.

The book will be written by Lily Meade whose previously novel, The Shadow Sister, was released bv Sourcebooks Fire Publishing in 2023.

Batman & Scooby-Doo Teaming-Up Once Again

Hot off of the heels of the first twelve-issue Batman & Scooby-Doo mini-series DC Comics has announced that fans will be getting another caped mystery adventure starring the world’s greatest detective and everyon’s favourite mystery-solving teens. Slated for an October release, The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #1 will feature a strange mystery that pulls the dynamic duo, the Batmen of All Nations, Scooby, and the rest of the gang into a jet-setting race to some of the most haunted places on Earth. And as if that wasn’t chilling enough, that trail also leads straight to Ra’s al Ghul and his League of Assassins!

If you enjoyed the first mini-series you will for sure want to pick up this second go-around which will be, once again, written by longtime Scooby writers Sholly Fisch and Ivan Cohen and feature the artistic talents of Dario Brizuela.

H-B ARCHIVES: Looking Back to (The Jetsons’) Future!

Originally published to coincide with the 1990 release of the big screen debut of everyone’s favourite future family, this is an old Comics Scene article written by CS contributor, Marc Shapiro, who spoke with legendary Hanna-Barbera character designer and VP of creative design, Iwao Takamoto, about The Jetsons‘ classic single-season of television back in 1962, as well as the possible future for the franchise.
